Who we are
This website is operated by Prolific Press Inc. (“Prolific Press,” “we,” “us”), an independent literary publisher based in the United States. This policy covers prolificpress.com and the services on it — our bookstore, our online submission platform, our submission-calls email list, and our web forms. Questions? Information we collect
- Submission-calls email list. Your email address, and your name if you provide it.
- Submission-platform accounts & manuscripts. If you create a writer account or submit work, we collect your name (and pen name, if any), email, the credentials you set, the work you upload, and the details you provide with a submission — which may include a mailing address, phone number, and biography — along with your submission history and the IP address used to submit.
- Payments. Reading or contest fees and bookstore purchases are handled by third-party processors (such as PayPal and our bookstore’s gateway). They collect your payment details directly; we never receive or store your full card number.
- Bookstore orders. The name, contact, shipping/billing, and order details needed to fulfill your purchase.
- Forms. Whatever you enter into a form (such as a grant application or printing-quote request) so we can respond.
- Automatic data. Standard server logs and cookies — IP address, browser and device type, and referring and visited pages — used to run and secure the site.
How we use it
We use your information to run the submission platform and process submissions and any fee; to fulfill bookstore orders; to send submission calls to people who joined that list; to respond to your messages; to secure and improve the site and prevent abuse; and to meet our legal and tax obligations. We do not use it for anything else.
How we share it
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information, and we do not share it with advertisers. We share it only with service providers who help us run the site — our web host, our payment processors (PayPal and the bookstore gateway), Cloudflare Turnstile (an anti-bot check), and our email-delivery provider — and only as needed to provide the service. We may also disclose information when required by law or to protect our rights, our writers, or the public.
Cookies & Do Not Track
We use only essential cookies — to keep you signed in to your account, keep the site secure, remember your light/dark theme, and run the bookstore cart and anti-spam check. We do not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies, and we do not track you across other websites. Because we don’t track across sites, we do not respond to browser “Do Not Track” signals. You can block or delete cookies in your browser, though some features may stop working.
Managing your information
Every submission-calls email includes a one-click unsubscribe link, so you can leave that list instantly. If you have a submission account, you can review and update your profile from within your account. For any other question about your information, email admin@prolificpress.com.
Data retention & security
As a publisher, we retain submissions, accepted and published works, contracts, and the materials and information you send us as part of our permanent publishing records. Keeping these records is an ordinary and necessary business practice, and we may retain them indefinitely — including after an account is closed. Other information is kept only as long as needed to provide our services and to meet ordinary business, tax, and legal requirements, then disposed of. We protect your information with encrypted (HTTPS) connections, hashed passwords, and access controls. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to keep your data safe.
California residents
We do not sell or share your personal information, and we do not use it for cross-context behavioral advertising.
Children
Our site is intended for adults and is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their information. Our submission platform is for writers at least 18 (or with a parent or guardian acting for them, as described in our submission guidelines). If you believe a child has provided information, contact us and we will delete it.
Changes
If we change how we handle your information, we’ll update this page and the “last updated” date above.
